One last important thought for the last days of this year: The ontological problems with Canada are easily handled imho if one adopts Vaihinger's philosophy of "as if". I do believe that if "the theoretical untruth or incorrectness, and therewith the falsity of Canada, is admitted" then 'the idea of Canada' "in spite of its theoretical nullity, may still have great practical importance."
In other words, if one acts and thinks "as if" Canada really exists most of the confusion can be resolved (*).
Merry Christmas!
(*) Now Sealand, that is a much tougher problem ... but in the end we're all living in America of course.

I too was among the doubters, even when I met those who claimed to have experienced a winter night in Calgary. Then I went to Edmonton...
Actually I have strong evidence that Canada cannot exist: Several years ago we were skiing in Vermont. It was freezing cold beyond believe. Now, Canada is supposedly to the north of Vermont and would have to be even colder. But this is impossible because no people would be able to live there ..
Your arguments only imply that Canadians don't exist. My personal opinion is that Canadians are probably a migratory species, wintering, perhaps, in the Bahamas or Australia. Or perhaps they hibernate in deep snow-buried dens.
>> wintering, perhaps, in the Bahamas
actually, some of them do (they do not only try to escape the winter btw 8-)
But of course the existence of Canadians (i.e. people believing in the existence of Canada) does not prove the existence of "Canada".
Oliver, I have sent you an email ...
