books

Apparently I was nice and consequently Santa brought me lots of books...

Bourgeois Dignity: Why Economics Can't Explain the Modern World.
or: Why did the Industrial Revolution really happen?

Gray Hat Python: Python Programming for Hackers and Reverse Engineers
or: More toys for a middle aged man convinced that there is nothing Python cannot do 8-)

The Beginning of Infinity: Explanations That Transform the World.
or: David Deutsch about life in the multiverse (and how to write enthusiastically about the many worlds interpretation without ever mentioning the open questions and the debate about it).

And several Austrian crime and mystery novels (*) which I will probably read first 8-)

(*) It seems that there is currently a trend towards insane detectives, so one never knows if the evidence they find is real or imagined. I assume this is a reflection of the times we live in ...

“without ever mentioning the open questions”

I think he briefly mentions probabilities as a problem somewhere near the end of the book, but never really addresses that problem other than to say we presently don’t know how to address it. Or maybe I’m not remembering correctly.

I think I will re-read the book. He annoyed me some the first time through and because of that I may not have been paying much attention to the point he was really trying to get across.

I have yet to read the whole thing.
So far I have only browsed through the chapter about the multiverse.
